Since the OBD2TOOL Cummins is an inline 6 it is much narrower than a V8 making the left and right sides of the engine much more accessible and easier to work on while still in the engine bay of the pickup. By comparison, the Powerstroke takes up so much space in the engine bay and is so complex and tightly packed that any repair requred  extensive dis-assembly of the engine bay, and in most cases the entire body of the truck has to be lifted off of the frame. Try pulling a cylinder heat off of a Powerstroke with the body intact. with the Cummins it is easy, plus it only has one cylinder head vs 2 in a V8. The Duramax, while not quite as complex or crammed into the engine bay as the Ford, is still a chore to work on. the Cummins is a piece of cake. Look at these three engines below, out of their bodies, and tell me which one looks harder to work on. The Cummins is on top, with the Ford in the middle and the Duramax on bottom. See for yourself. Don’t believe me, go look at each engine under the hood of their respected pickups. You have to see it in person to believe it.

Keeping in mind that there are exceptions, most diesel engines are under square, meaning they’ve been designed with a stroke that is longer than the engine bore diameter. This is because a relatively long stroke promotes torque production, especially at low engine speeds. As stroke length increases, the lever arm created between the connecting rod and crankshaft also increases (called the crank throw). The additional leverage creates a greater moment (engineering equivalent of torque) on the crankshaft and this translates into more torque at the flywheel.
